Virtual Private Networks

What you'll learn : Course Outline : Request Info

Course Length:
3 days, customizable

Schedule:
Private/on-site
or co-op delivery.

Description:  This course provides in-depth coverage  and hands on experience with the applications, protocols and devices used to build Virtual Private Networks over the Internet. The global reach, with local access qualities of the Internet, provide an economical means for corporations to extend access to internal information from users and sites anywhere in the world. But a lack of inherent security and central control make this a solution that requires information protection and secure access authentication. Prerequisites:
A knowledge of IP Internetworking and basic  Network Security is required.
Audience:   This course is intended for networking and security professionals involved in analyzing, marketing, designing, installing and supporting secure IP-based network environments. Delivery Methods: Live classroom with hands-on labs.

This course can be modified and used as part of a customized IP curriculum to fulfill your business requirements.
Audiences of all levels will find it useful to combine all or parts of this course with modules from the IP Internetworking, Advanced IP Concepts and/or  Network Security courses to create a thorough IP course curriculum, to suit unique training needs.

What you'll learn...

Understand how Virtual Private Networks provide corporate connectivity over the Internet with the benefits of dedicated private line circuits.

Identify the prominent VPN architectures and protocols used for remote access and site-to-site connectivity.

Learn the security measures that should be enforced to provide the "private" in VPNs, and how Radius can provide a centralized resource for authentication.

See how the flexibility built into the PPP protocol has been extended to provide robust remote access solutions over carrier networks and the Internet, and is the foundation for most VPN tunneling methods.

Explore the PPTP and L2TP tunneling protocols and see how they provide connection-oriented services over connectionless IP network environments like the Internet.

Learn how the IPSec protocol provides for remote access and site-to-site connectivity requirements.

Understand the mechanisms and implications of deploying the various security methods available in IPSec.

     Hands-on exercises

Attendees will implement, test and analyze the various VPN tunneling and security techniques.
